I find myself shooting film because of the tangibility of the end result, the added challenge of its unpredictable nature, and way the equipment shapes my perception. I like to think that the way it encourages me to crop less and be more selective has made me a better photographer.

Artistically, I lean toward minimal compositions reflecting change, “progress”, and contrast in urban and rural contexts. My current project focuses on questioning the reality of our environments and the media we consume.

Being both a designer and DIY-er, I also have product photography experience. Though I’ve mostly used digital for these, I’m working toward getting more comfortable with larger formats and capitalizing on the limitations of smaller formats to achieve unique results.

This selection of photos are from a series taken during a self-supported bicycle tour of Canada’s maritime provinces. I tried to capture the sense of calm inherent to the pace of life I found thoughout the region.
